News - March 25

Commissioned by Friends of Weymouth Train Station and funded by Network Rail, our year 1 students on the Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design were tasked to design and make sculptures inspired by natural seed pods & forms.  To be mounted on a steel poles and displayed at the front of the Station. 

Jeanie Angus from the Friends said “I am thrilled with the sculptures, they will add interest to the flowerbeds and draw the eye up off the planting at winter time and still look wonderful when everything has grown up and in full flower." 

News - February 25

Costume concept artist and theatre designer, maker & writer​, Sophie Fretwell delivered a seminar and tutorials to Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design, as part of their costume illustration project. Sophie, who has worked for companies including; Lucasfilm, DC and Marvel, English Heritage and The National Trust, created a real industry focus and direction to guide the students approach.

News - December 24

Students on Level 3 Art & Design Diploma, showcased their work at Steampunk Asylum, held at Nothe Fort in December. Commissioned by Weymouth Bid and supported by the Weldmar Hospicecare charity shops, students sourced materials thoughtfully to reimagine discarded textiles into striking designs inspired by steampunk aesthetic.

News - October 24

Students from our Level 4 and 5 courses spent five days exploring the dynamic arts and cultural scene of Berlin. Ambitious art and design works were seen in the  Berlinische, Hamburger Bahnhof, Boros Collection and Neue National. Whilst to soak up the city, walks to landmarks, the famous Gallery Districts and Occupied Buildings. This trip will feed the students imagination, inspiration and project work.

News - September 24

The UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design students spent the day amongst dinosaur footprints at The Engine Shed, Portland. They used this enigmatic building to explore and experiment with site specific installation. Using temporary forms made of found materials, sticks and cardboard, they created immersive responses using lighting, sound and projections.

UAL Art & Design 

Level 2

This one year diploma at Level 2 is the equivalent of GCSE level study. 

The course is taught as a series of projects that develop creative skills and experiences in a range of Art and Design disciplines, including drawing, painting, textiles, sculpture, printmaking and visual communication.

The course includes access to trips, visiting artist lectures, work experiences, exhibition of work and live projects set by industry professionals. Students develop CV, portfolio and promotional materials.

UAL Art & Design

Level 3 + Level 3 Extended Diploma

This two year diploma in Art & Design follows GCSE or Level 2 study. 

The course aims to enable students to succeed within the Creative Arts industry, or to progress to the Foundation Diploma and Higher Education. 

With development of skills across a range of digital and traditional media including sculpture, painting, drawing, Adobe suite, photography, textiles and printmaking. This study is supported by visits, work experience opportunities and visiting artists, designers and professionals. ​​

UAL Photography

Level 3 + Level 3 Extended Diploma

This two year diploma in Photography follows on from GCSE/Level 2 study. 

Students are taught to explore and experiment with a variety of traditional and digital photography and related media. Using our purpose built darkroom, professional studio and digital suite.

The course begins to develop the artistic and technical skills needed for working within the lens-based creative and digital industries. Students will take part in work experience, exhibitions and live projects.

UAL Foundation Diploma Art & Design - FULL TIME STUDY

Level 3 - 4

The Foundation Diploma is an exciting journey which prepares you for your creative future. Students learn and explore a wide variety of art and design skills. The course is taught by specialist lecturers through workshops, seminars, lectures and trips. Life drawing classes form an important element of study. Students develop their work in a dedicated studio space, developing a level of independence and autonomy that will support university level study or professional work.

UAL Foundation Diploma Art & Design - PART TIME STUDY

Level 3 - 4

The PART TIME Foundation Diploma is Studied over two years; year 1 taught on Monday and Tuesday, year 2 on Wednesday and Thursday. 

This is a perfect course for anyone who has an interest in developing their art and design practice. Using our specialist facilities in print, painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, photography, installation and digital media.

The course is taught by specialist lecturers through workshops, seminars, lectures & trips. Life drawing classes form an important element of study.​

Foundation Degree
Art & Design Practice

Level 4 - 5

The first two years of Degree Level study, The objective of the course is the teaching of the fundamentals of creative practice across Art, Design and Lens-based media, on an academic and practical level.

The course enables students to become contemporary, flexible and fluid practitioners within their chosen field. Through the two years students begin to specialise their direction and undertake professional practices and opportunities as part of the course.

Students have access to a BA (hons) top up year with Plymouth University.
